Girl Scout Cookies: salmonella free since 1917
As the salmonella scare intensifies and stores are pulling peanut butter products off of the shelves, be thankful that there’s one thing you can rest easy about: Girl Scout Cookies. According to the head of marketing for Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, their Peanut Butter Patties and Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies have been tested, and they are not made with the tainted peanut products. Their supplier was also audited by the FDA. My favorite quote from her is, “So go ahead and indulge – unless you’re watching your weight, in which case they might be deadly”. I got a laugh out of that. In other words: Don’t worry, you’ll still die, just not from salmonella.

Although those cookies are okay, I will probably steer clear of the peanut varieties of Girl Scout Cookies and stick to Thin Mints and Caramel deLites (also known as Samoas). Why the Girl Scouts insist on giving some of their cookies multiple names is beyond me. Not to mention confusing.
