Jay Leno is going prime time, but I’m not sure why
You may have heard that NBC is keeping Jay Leno when he leaves the Tonight Show next year. The plan is to have Leno in a new timeslot, every weeknight at 1o PM. Not only has nothing ever been done like this on network television on this particular slot, but I’m not sure it’s a good idea. I think part of the appeal of the Tonight Show is that it’s a funny show because it’s on late at night. Taken at face value, the monologue is never that hilarious or the interviews that interesting. But when I’m up late, I’ll pretty much laugh at anything. The difference is that at 10:00, you have a whole different audience, and this type of show might not go over well. That’s my opinion, anyway. I do like Headlines, though. Those are actually funny.
In related Philly news, Jimmy Fallon (who’s taking over for Conan (who’s taking over for Jay)) has announced that Philly group The Roots are going to be his house band. That’s pretty sweet.
