Try it: message encrypted by Word thesaurus

Published by zlobe at 5:56 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

There haven’t been too many people commenting on this blog lately. That leads me to believe there aren’t too many people reading it, either. Maybe you can prove me wrong. Today I’m posting a little exercise in the hopes of some audience participation. Yes, I am a total dork, but I had a little time over the weekend to take one of my e-mails and translate it. I’ve decided that I’d like to start using bigger and fancier words in order to sound smarter, so I took a random e-mail in my inbox and translated it using Microsoft Word’s thesaurus.

Here were my rules: For each word, if the thesaurus did not offer any suggestions, I left it alone. Otherwise, I changed the word to the first suggestion on the list (sometimes it was a phrase replacing a single word). I changed plurals and tenses where appropriate. Post your guesses on here, and the person that gets the closest to the actual original words will receive, ummm….. a great prize. Actually, probably just a congratulations and a hearty (virtual) handshake. And a big… thing… of riches. This particular e-mail was written by someone on my softball team explaining why she couldn’t make it to the previous game (which we won, by the way, making it our first victory in 18 tries this year!!) If you don’t feel like decoding the whole thing you can just post whatever sentence you think you know. Here it is:

Well done!

I am apologetic I existed not clever in the direction of be present at previous nighttime. I am fraction of a Rotating Association plus it was our contract nighttime which is on the whole our introduction in the direction of the Nationwide/Global Rotating Association…I couldn’t fail to spot it. It noises similar to you had an actually huge pastime.

I’d feel affection for in the direction of approach absent intended for the after that final tournament pastime. Now allow me be acquainted with stipulation you require me and I’ll exist present. I contain rejection additional Monday nighttime disagreements.

Good luck!

Ok, here’s my weak attempt. This was not easy!

    Good job!

I am sorry I did not know I was supposed to be there last night. I am a member of a Rotary Club Association plus it was our sign-up night which is our initiation into the National/Global Rotary Club…I couldn’t miss it. It sounds like you had a really big game.

I’d love to know what you have planned for the after game party. Let me know what the plan is and I will be there. I have no more Monday night obligations.

    “Well done!

I’m sorry I was not able to be there last night. I am part of a Rotary Club and it was our pledge night which is actually our induction into the National/International Rotary Club. I couldn’t miss it. It sounds like you had a very big game.

I’d love to find out what’s planned for the end of that last series game. Now let me know exactly when you need me and I’ll be there. I have no more Monday night conflicts.”

    How’s that?

By the way, this is a fun idea (cheesy but in a very fun way). :D

Thanks to those who commented and/or e-mailed me with guesses. MsOD, Kristin, and Clem each got big chunks of it, and when you put it all together you pretty much have it. You each receive a gold star!

    “Congratulations!

I am sorry I was not able to attend last night. I am part of a Rotary Club and it was our charter night which is basically our induction to the National/International Rotary Club…I couldn’t miss it. It sounds like you had a really great game.

I’d love to come out for the next playoff game. Just let me know if you need me and I’ll be there. I have no more Monday night conflicts.”

My favorite part? Rotary Club = Rotating Association. I never really understood what Rotary Clubs do to begin with, and what about them rotates?

Clem, you are right, it is VERY cheesy. But who knows, I might try it again.
