JK! Boscov’s is staying open
Back in the summer, Boscov’s department stores, based in Reading, PA, announced that they were filing for bankruptcy and were closing several of its stores. When I heard this, I figured that the family-owned retailer would be going the way of Strawbridges, Gimbels, and other defunct department stores. Now it turns out that the Boscov family is buying the department store back in a bankruptcy deal. They have closed 10 of the original 49 stores, but it doesn’t sound like they plan any other closures. The son of the guy who founded the store and his brother and law put the bid together in order to keep running the business. It was a surprise to me and I’m sure keeps a lot of people in the area happy.
