Daylight savings doesn’t save us anything
Last night was the end of daylight savings time. Did any of you get an extra hour of sleep? Or were you like me who woke up at the same time as usual, which will only make me tired an hour earlier tonight? According to two economists, as written in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, it doesn’t look like we’re saving any energy by extending daylight savings time by a few weeks. We have done this for the last two years, but there has been no energy savings seen, in fact in some cases people use more energy. This is because of increases in heating and cooling for hours people are home that they wouldn’t normally be otherwise. It will be interesting to see what Congress decides to do going forward.
