Identity theft scammer gets five years in prison

Published by zlobe at 7:50 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Jocelyn Kirsch, one of a pair of Philly’s most notorious identity-theft scammers, was sentenced to five years in prison for an elaborate scheme in which they stole a total of over $116,000 and spent most of it on luxury items. She and her former boyfriend, Edward Anderton, stole identity information from neighbors, friends, and co-workers, made fake IDs, and used fraudulent credit cards to make their purchases. Anderton will be sentenced next month.

The original sentence was 70-81 months, but the judge took 10 months off of that because the defense argued that she is mentally ill and is currently seeking treatment. She will have to pay $100,000 in restitution and will be on probation for five years after her release. It is a harsher sentence than I expected for this so called “victimless” or white-collar crime, but I am glad it is. They caused a lot of harm to a lot of people and it finally caught up to them.
