Fightin’ Phils back in first

Published by zlobe at 6:02 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

About a week ago I would never have believed that the Phillies would be in first place. No, not in the wild-card standings, but first place in the National League East. While the Mets do have a game in hand, the Phils took a 1/2 game lead with 11 left to play. They defeated the Braves 8-7 last night, but it took some heroics from their key players. Ryan Howard crushed a home run to left field in the eighth inning to put them ahead for good. Then Brad “Lights Out” Lidge nearly gave me a heart attack in getting his 37th save.

Lidge loaded the bases with two outs, but when he got the final strikeout, I jumped from my seat and let out a celebratory cheer, as did lots of other people. For the last two weeks of the season I will be on the edge of my seat as the Phillies make another playoff push.
