Soap Box Derby a hit in soggy Manayunk

Published by zlobe at 8:48 am under Uncategorized Edit This

I know a lot of people were wondering about the Red Bull Soapbox Race, which was scheduled to stop in Philadelphia yesterday. With Tropical Storm Hanna approaching, would Manayunk still host this event and how would it go? As it turns out, they held the derby rain or shine, it was well attended and it looks like everyone had a great time. Here’s an example of one of the runs down The Wall:

As you can see, it was very rainy but it didn’t stop people from coming out or dampen their enthusiasm.  Local newsman Tim Furlong and even Mayor Nutter were among the drivers in nearly 40 teams that participated. First place went to Team Deuces Wild, and the People’s Choice Award went to the Wizz Kids. Hopefully they will have this type of event in the area soon so that I can attend next time.

Yup, his name is Michael Nutter. He’s not been mayor long so I’m not sure if he has a nickname :)
