Are you ready for some… numbers?
Watching the baseball All-Star Game introductions last night (and no, I did not stay up to watch all 15 innings), and all of those Hall of Famers standing on that field at Yankee Stadium, it made me think about how great it would be if the game came to Philly in the near future. Apparently, the Phillies have the same idea; according to an article in today’s Inquirer, the Phillies are one of several teams that are interested in hosting. But the competition is fierce, with the hosts being projected to be awarded elsewhere until at least 2015. Don’t hold your breath. Remember a few years back there was talk of Philly making a bid being an Olympic host, but that went nowhere.
If it’s any consolation, Philadelphia was able to swing some Olympic trials this year, including table tennis. Woo-hoo! And Mayor Nutter just announced that this fall Philadelphia is putting in a bid to host — brace yourselves — the World Sudoku Championship 2010!! We already have the national championship this October, but we have our sights set on the entire globe. And I think it will be a shoo-in.

Speaking of this year’s nationals, you can register here: philly.com/sudoku. I love playing the game, and I will register as soon as I figure out how to actually finish a reasonably difficult puzzle in under 2 hours or without peeking at the answer.
