Slip ‘n’ Slide Part 2

Published by zlobe at 3:13 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Refer to yesterday’s blog for part 1 of the story. Since tonight’s game hasn’t been played yet and I have nothing else to talk about, I’ll describe the scene from yesterday’s marathon rain-soaked game. Oh wait, first of all… I found a great picture on The700Level.com with the Slip ‘n’ Slide guy crawling into the tube (and my first glance was correct, he definitely had pants on):

So after the nearly 3-hour rain delay, all the fans move down to the lower seats. You’ve got the Phillies fans sitting on the first-base side, and mostly Mets fans on the third-base side. Couldn’t have been more than a few thousand fans remaining. For all four plus innings that were played from that point, it was an atmosphere unlike any I’ve experienced. It was intimate and emotionally charged, with the rivalry between the two sets of fans as interesting as the one on the field. The best part obviously was seeing former Phillies closer Billy Wagner giving up a ninth-inning game tying home run to Jayson Werth, which temporarily silenced the fans behind the Mets dugout. But it was short-lived and ultimately the Phillies lost which made it a less enjoyable experience. But I will say it is one I won’t forget anytime soon.
