Slip ‘n’ Slide
So here it is, Sunday night at almost midnight, and I’m here writing my blog. Why, you ask? Well, I just came home from the Phillies game… and I stayed for the whole game. That means that I endured a 4 hour and 25 minute game plus a 2 hour and 50 minute rain delay. Plus we arrived over 2 hours before the game started and had an hour drive each way. All of this adds up to a full 12 hour day going to the ballpark. Oh and did I mention that not only did we stay for the rain delay, we actually sat in the pouring rain and driving wind with ponchos on?
So forget that it was a great game between the Phillies and the Mets that went 12 innings and was full of so many incredible moments that happened both on and off the field, that if only the Phillies had actually won would have made it one of the all-time greats. I actually don’t have room here to talk about all of that today. But let me just talk about one of them: during the rain delay, a crazy fan wearing a Phillies jersey and, I’ve heard both sides, may or may not have been wearing pants, ran onto the field. He then did something that all of us who have sat in the rain have wanted to do: he did a headfirst slide onto the rain-soaked tarp between first and second base. It took this long for the grounds crew to even notice he was on the field. But now they start chasing him, and he makes this great moment even better. He crawls inside the black tube that they keep the tarp on! He crawled all the way through to the other side and had security waiting for him there as they hauled him away. Priceless… that was just one of many interesting moments during today’s game… I may expand on them more later; right now I’m kinda sleepy.

That, my friend, is an amazing story.
