’scuse me while I kiss this guy…
This topic was requested on my Suggestions page… just follow the link at the top of this page if you have any ideas for me to write about.
Misheard lyrics, mondegreens, um, screw-ups, whatever you want to call them, they’re hilarious. I have been a fan of the website kissthisguy.com for many years now. I still visit it when I need a good laugh. People submit their embarrassing moment of when they sang their favorite song one way but the real lyrics were something else. For example (and this is my Philly reference for today), the song Everything Zen by Bush goes “try to see it once my way.” However, I thought it sounded more like “slushy was my water ice.” (If you don’t know what water ice is that will have to be another blog for another time). So that’s how I sang it without bothering to find out the real words. I even tried to copy the idea for this website many years ago with all misheard lyrics for the band Pearl Jam - trust me, there are a lot of them. Especially funny are words that little kids come up with. That’s how “Hey Jealousy” can become “Hedgehog Sing” (the little kid was not me, by the way.)
Please feel free to add to this list any time. I can’t think of any more off the top of my head but if I do I will add them.

Ok, I admit it, it was me. In my defense, I think that may have been in the era of being obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog. The hedgehog Bry- NOT the restaurant you “discovered”
My favorite example of this blog - in Philly there is a local tv show called the 10! Show on NBC10. One day the female host mentions how she visited a website where people put their theories about what the lyrics to songs are. And she thought that one funny misunderstood lyric was for a Whitney Houston Song “Saving All My Love” - she proudly announces that someone wrote that they thought the words were “because i’m shaving off my muff for you..” She said it over and over again until the male cohost stopped her. Check it out on Youtube!
I’ve always been fond of these as well, ever since I discovered them while volunteering in my middle school library.
My favorite example is a run of YouTube videos based on misheard Nightwish lyrics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg5_mlQOsUQ is one of them–start there and link-jump, and it’ll keep you busy for hours.
